WASHINGTON, DC – On July 5, Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (TX-29) announces $17,147,333.05 in federal funding to Houston Independent School District for emergency protective measures.
“I am proud to announce this funding to the Houston Independent School District for personal protective equipment. Students and teachers faced such challenges during COVID-19 when adjusting to a world of virtual learning and an increased need for safety equipment that was unfamiliar to all of us. Even though the worst of the pandemic has passed, the effects are still felt daily by schools and community members everywhere. This funding will begin to ease that burden,” said Congresswoman Garcia.
This funding is provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to contract services to conduct emergency protective measures by providing personal protective equipment and supplies to be distributed to staff and students for the safe opening and operation of its 276 schools that supports 209,000 students and 27,000 staff members. The funds allowed for increased testing, safer environments, and healthier students and teachers.
