Houston restaurant workers are invited to take free online food service training program

The Houston Health Department and Greater Houston Restaurant Association have formed a partnership to protect the health of restaurant patrons during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a the Houston Health Departmentthe two agencies are launching a free online COVID-19 Foodservice Operator Training Program as part of the health department’s Better. Together. initiative.

Restaurant and other food service establishments can access the free online training program to receive education on food safety, social distancing, hygiene, sanitation, and other precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 among restaurant staff and patrons. Restaurants that successfully complete the training will receive a certificate and decal for public display to show that they are a Better. Together. COVID-19 Safety Certified dining entity.

“This training course is a way for restaurants and other food service establishments to receive the added education needed to provide an extra layer of safety to their patrons,” Naomi Macias, chief of the Houston Health Department’s Bureau of Consumer Health Services, said.  “In turn, seeing our decals on display will let the public know they are dining in a place that went the extra mile to protect their workers and guests.”
