Cost of college went up for all students at the University of Houston-Downtown

In-state tuition and fees rose 0.5 percent for 2018-19 at the University of Houston-Downtown, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Texas residents paid $6,500 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $30 more than the $6,470 charged for 2017-18.

Non-resident students would have paid 153.2 percent more than residents this year, or $16,460. Non-resident tuition and fees grew 0.2 percent from $16,430 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Texas residents. And about 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 85 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 702 students received grants or scholarships totaling $6.1 million and 180 students took out student loans totaling more than $778,107.

Including all undergraduates (14,265), 7,922 students used grants or scholarships totaling $42.4 million, and 4,759 students took out $37.3 million in federal student loans.
