Two popular Houston sports bars are closing due to the pandemic.
A popular Houston sports bar will close two locations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was known as one of the best places in town to catch a game, and now customers who loved Lucky’s in Downtown and Lucky’s Lodge will have to find a new place to enjoy sports.
Lucky’s Pub in downtown Houston and Lucky’s Lodge on Rusk Street closed in June after 14 years, and the customer favorites will be missed. This sports bar has been the winner of the Houston Press “Best Bar” and “Best Happy Hour” awards in the publication’s reader’s choice contest, and named the best Sports Bar in Houston in 2017 – as well as the Readers Choice Best Sports Bar that year.
The pub nabbed the Best Sports Bar award in 2016, 2015, 2013 and the “Best Bar Games” award in 2014.
One Lucky’s location area that will remain open is in Katy. Visitors to that location can still enjoy a varied menu as they order takeout. The pub is offering both alcohol and food as takeout items at this time.
Lucky’s isn’t the only restaurant struggling in Houston. The Greater Houston Restaurant Association expects that 30 percent of the community’s restaurants will close by the end of 2020, according to ABC13.
"You could be whoever you wanted to be, and they accepted you for who you were," said Lewis Hernandez, identified as a longtime customer in an interview with ABC13. "With COVID-19 you're losing a sense of normalcy. This was taken away from me as well."
