Houston artists affected by coronavirus shutdown can apply for assistance

Ward

The Houston Arts Alliance is accepting donations to assist local artists who may be out of work or need financial help due to the coronavirus.

Approved applicants can receive a grant of up to $1,000. KHOU reports that grants are available to Houston-area artists and arts workers, including arts nonprofit employees and gallerists.

The money will help supplement public assistance and allow recipients some help with food, rent and medical expenses.

The Houston Arts Alliance Board of Directors has seeded the fund with initial donations and their goal is to collect $100,000.

According to their website, the Houston Arts Alliance is a local arts and culture organization whose work is to implement the City of Houston's vision, values and goals for its arts grantmaking and civic art investments.  Houston Arts Alliance is dedicated to the arts, believing in the incomparable value of artists and arts organizations, who are vitally important to the quality of life and the economy in Houston.
