Federal workers to exit Houston as city is denied new COVID-19 testing site

The City of Houston will have to readjust after discovering that it doesn’t have the necessary supplies to open another testing site, causing the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to leave the city in the next couple of days, Click2Houston reported.

Mayor Sylvester Turner confirmed that the three HHS workers that are in the city will be out by April 10.

“They are going to be redirected someplace else outside of the state of Texas,” he said according to Click2Houston. “So, we’re going to have to pick up the greater load here. We’re looking at how we can be a little bit more robust as far as testing.”

As of April 9, Texas reported 10,230 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including 199 deaths. Harris County has 2,341 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 31 fatalities.

While HHS is leaving the city, Turner still encourages residents to wear face masks and social distance from one another.
