As the re-election bid for President Donald Trump heats up and polls show less support than ever from female voters around the country, those who do are reaching out to other women – particularly in the suburbs of Texas – in hopes of keeping the state red.
“Texas Republicans need women on their side if they’re going to keep the state red in 2020, but recent polls suggest President Donald Trump’s support among women is plummeting,” a recent Texas Tribune story said.
“Trump’s campaign seems to take the risk seriously. At the October Women for Trump panel discussion, a group of female surrogates – mostly white, some living in D.C. – parachuted into a historically black neighborhood in the heart of Texas’ biggest city to sip drinks and implore Republican women: ‘We need your help,’” the article said.
Democrats are also seeking a half-dozen congressional seats along with nearly two dozen seats within the Texas House in order to flip it in their favor. Dems are looking to take command of a legislature in the state of Texas for the first time in almost twenty years.
A ground-floor campaign would be a significant change from Trump’s 2016 charge, which was driven primarily by social media and rhetoric. While pollsters do not have an exact count of women needed in order to maintain control, they believe the president is going to need to win the female vote as much or even more than he did in 2016 in order to stay in the White House.
