Human trafficking survivor from Katy makes visit to White House

Whitehouserearext

A woman who survived human trafficking in Texas made a trip to the White House recently in her efforts to debunk the stereotypes about victims of the crime and let others know it can happen anywhere, ABC News 7 in Chicago reported.

Courtney Litvak, who attended Cinco Ranch High School in Katy, said she was a victim of human trafficking when she was in 11th grade. She explained said one of the school’s athletes went after her and set up a face-to-face between Litvak and a pimp. After that, she was sex trafficked for two years all around the country. While she was able to escape, she’s still recovering from the experience.

According to ABC 7, she said at the White House, “I had to be broken in order to realize how much God loved me. I will not be silent. I will not be put into fear. I will live by faith, no longer by fear. I am not a victim. I am a survivor.”

First Lady Ivanka Trump said, according to the news station, “It was incredibly humbling to meet with Courtney and Kelly Livak today. The scourge of human trafficking does not start at the waters’ edge. It’s affecting people in our own neighborhoods and throughout the United States. This administration is deeply committed to ensuring that Courtney’s experience will never be repeated.”

The school district released a statement to the station that said that it’s also on board to offer a safe learning atmosphere for students in an effort to put a stop to human trafficking.

“This is an important issue among our school community, and together we will continue our work to inform and protect,” the district's statement read.
