Senator John Cornyn, representing Texas in the U.S. Senate, used his social media account to highlight recent events and issues involving Texas communities and public officials.
On July 23, 2025, Cornyn posted about a Judiciary hearing where Marie Vega, referred to as an “Angel Mom,” honored her son, former U.S. Marine and Border Patrol Agent Javier Vega Jr. According to Cornyn’s post: “Angel Mom Marie Vega, mother of former U.S. Marine & Border Patrol Agent Javier Vega, Jr., honored her son yesterday at our Judiciary hearing. On August 3rd, 2014, Javier was out with his family when two criminal illegal aliens ambushed him to try and steal his truck & began” (July 23, 2025).
Later that day, Cornyn acknowledged the actions of a Corpus Christi-based United States Coast Guard flight crew who responded during severe flooding in Texas on July 4th. In his tweet he stated: “I was honored to meet with this Corpus Christi-based @USCG Flight Crew to thank them for their bravery and heroic efforts helping rescue more than 160 individuals during the tragic July 4th flood in Texas. They stepped up when duty called & rushed to the front lines to save” (July 23, 2025).
The following morning, Cornyn addressed concerns regarding property claims by public officials in Texas. He wrote: “Texas AG claimed three homes as primary residence. Democrats are being probed for similar issue” (July 24, 2025).
Senator John Cornyn has served as a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and frequently addresses law enforcement and border security matters. The incident involving Javier Vega Jr., which took place in August 2014, led to significant discussions on immigration enforcement policies across Texas and nationally. The July 4th floods referenced by Cornyn resulted in widespread damage and required extensive emergency response efforts from agencies such as the U.S. Coast Guard.
