Senator Cornyn has held his seat since first winning election in 2002. He defeated Ron Kirk with 55% of the vote that year. In subsequent elections, he maintained his position by defeating Rick Noriega in 2008 with nearly 55% of the vote, David Alameel in 2014 with over 61%, and MJ Hegar in 2020 with approximately 53%.
