Senator John Cornyn, a longtime Republican senator from Texas, posted a series of statements on his Twitter account on February 3 and 4, 2026, addressing legislation he has authored related to Second Amendment rights and voter identification laws.
On February 3, Cornyn wrote: “Proud to be the author of this legislation in the Senate. Americans’ Second Amendment rights shouldn’t stop at the state line.”
The following day, he commented on voter identification requirements: “Voter ID is commonsense & U.S. elections are only for American citizens. Democrats know that if you require people to show that they’re qualified to vote, their voter base will shrink, especially in blue states that are havens for illegal aliens. I’m thankful to”.
In a subsequent post on February 4, Cornyn continued: “This legislation is long overdue to strengthen the integrity of our election systems. LEARN MORE https://t.co/PspwCpjzv2”.
Senator Cornyn has been elected multiple times since first winning his seat in 2002 by defeating Ron Kirk with 55% of the vote compared to Kirk’s 43%. He was re-elected in subsequent races against Rick Noriega in 2008 (54.8% vs. 42.8%), David Alameel in 2014 (61.6% vs. 34.3%), and MJ Hegar in 2020 (53.5% vs. 43.9%).
