Senator John Cornyn, a Republican representing Texas in the U.S. Senate, posted several statements on his Twitter account regarding recent actions by Texas House Democrats and the anniversary of the U.S. Coast Guard.
On August 3, 2025, Cornyn criticized members of the Texas House for their absence from legislative duties. He wrote, “51 Texas House Democrats are engaging in a selfish dereliction of duty preventing state business. I support any and all measures taken by Governor Abbott and state leaders to end this charade.”
The following day, August 4, he marked a milestone for a branch of the armed forces with another post: “Happy 235th birthday to the @USCG! To all our Coast Guardsmen: thank you for your service & for being #alwaysready to respond crisis and secure our seas.”
Later that same day, Cornyn again commented on the actions of Democratic lawmakers in Texas: “Strange tactic: “fighting” by running away. No wonder Democrats are in trouble.”
Senator Cornyn has served multiple terms in the U.S. Senate after winning elections against MJ Hegar in 2020 with 53.5% of the vote, David Alameel in 2014 with 61.6%, Rick Noriega in 2008 with 54.8%, and Ron Kirk in 2002 with 55%. These electoral victories have established him as a prominent figure within Texas politics.
