Senator John Cornyn, a Republican from Texas, used his social media platform on July 30, 2025, to criticize Senate Democrats for blocking President Trump’s nominees and to comment on the confirmation of a new Director for the National Counterterrorism Center.
In a post published at 16:38 UTC, Cornyn stated: “Partisan Senate Democrats are reflexively blocking 147 of President Trump’s nominees from a vote by the Senate. Senate Republicans should deploy all available means to overcome this obstruction. Stay tuned. @POTUS”
Later that day, at 17:46 UTC, he added: “Senate Democrats’ partisan obstruction to @POTUS’ nominees is making our country less safe & ceding the field to our adversaries.
They have allowed ZERO voice votes or unanimous consent on 147 civilian nominees, many of whom are ambassadors.
It’s shameful. It’s inexcusable.”
In another post at 22:27 UTC, Cornyn congratulated the newly confirmed Director of the National Counterterrorism Center: “Congratulations to our new Director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), @joekent16jan19!
I was glad to vote for your confirmation & look forward to working with you to protect our nation from international terrorist threats at home and abroad.”
Senator Cornyn has served in the U.S. Senate since winning his first election in 2002. He has consistently secured re-election victories over Democratic opponents such as Ron Kirk in 2002, Rick Noriega in 2008, David Alameel in 2014, and MJ Hegar in 2020.
