Senator John Cornyn, a Republican from Texas who has served in the U.S. Senate since 2002, posted a series of tweets on July 29, 2025, criticizing Democratic lawmakers and the Biden-Harris administration over immigration and child protection policies.
In one tweet, Cornyn accused Democrats of prioritizing criminals over American victims. He wrote on July 29: “Democrats are in complete disarray. They are DEFENDING criminals instead of Americans like Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray, Kayla Hamilton, & countless others victimized by criminal aliens. With more than 200,000 criminal aliens under final orders of deportation still in our”.
Later that day, Cornyn continued his criticism of the current administration’s border policies. On July 29 he stated: “Democrats have zero credibility on the border. For four years, the Biden-Harris admin opened the border to terrorists, criminals & gangs, the consequences of which Americans will likely have to pay for years or even decades to come. As we have said for months, we did NOT need”.
In another post directed at Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey regarding online child protection legislation, Cornyn questioned Booker’s opposition to a bill aimed at preventing child exploitation online. On July 29 he tweeted: “Why is @SenBooker objecting to a bill that will protect children from exploitation online? Is he REALLY siding with child sexual abusers in order to protect illegal immigrants?! His constituents in New Jersey deserve an explanation. This is a new low even for Democrats.”
Senator Cornyn has maintained his seat through several election cycles: defeating MJ Hegar in 2020 with 53.5% of the vote; David Alameel in 2014 with 61.6%; Rick Noriega in 2008 with 54.8%; and Ron Kirk in 2002 with 55%. These victories reflect his longstanding role as a prominent figure within Texas politics and national Republican discourse.
