Senator John Cornyn, a Republican representing Texas, addressed several policy and international issues in a series of posts on October 1, 2025.
In his first post of the day, Cornyn cited cost estimates from a nonpartisan government agency: “The Congressional Budget Office estimates extending the enhanced [Obamacare] subsidies would cost $350 billion through 2034.” (October 1, 2025).
Later that morning, Cornyn criticized Democratic lawmakers for their stance on health care funding during ongoing budget negotiations. He wrote: “Democrats started the #SchumerShutdown to fight for health care for illegal aliens & eliminate a $50 billion rural health fund.Â
Getting access to health care in rural America is a real challenge. Democrats don’t care.
They still haven’t accepted the outcome of the Nov. 5th” (October 1, 2025).
In another post that afternoon, Cornyn commented on international affairs and Russian disinformation efforts: “Putin’s propaganda flips reality on flights over NATO nations, as Russian public tires of war https://t.co/ct2aJmulHp” (October 1, 2025).
Senator Cornyn has served in the U.S. Senate since winning his first election in 2002. He has consistently secured re-election against Democratic challengers in subsequent cycles—defeating Ron Kirk in 2002 with approximately 55% of the vote, Rick Noriega in 2008 with about 54.8%, David Alameel in 2014 with roughly 61.6%, and MJ Hegar in 2020 with around 53.5%.
