Senator John Cornyn, who serves as a member of the U.S. Senate representing Texas and is affiliated with the Republican Party, used his Twitter account on July 22, 2025, to address issues related to border security and immigration policy. Cornyn referenced a Senate Judiciary GOP hearing he chaired earlier that day.
In his first tweet, Senator Cornyn stated: “The purpose of today’s @SenJudiciaryGOP hearing I chaired was to remind the public of the real tragedy of Biden’s open-border policies, the hundreds of victims of criminal illegals & the crimes that could’ve been avoided if the laws on the books had simply been enforced. “ (July 22, 2025).
He continued in a subsequent post: “I want to remind Democrats that there was a time in the not-so-distant past when they agreed that criminal, violent illegal aliens should be deported, but it seems like amnesia has set in because we NOW have a President in office who has restored the rule of law and requires” (July 22, 2025).
In another tweet from the same day, Cornyn wrote: “It’s a false narrative to claim that illegal aliens are not criminals but “law-abiding” individuals. If someone enters the U.S. illegally, it’s a crime – full stop.
And no – we can’t just move on from Biden’s Border Betrayal. Today, there are 291,143 CRIMINAL aliens in the” (July 22, 2025).
These remarks come amid ongoing national debates about U.S. immigration policy and border enforcement under President Joe Biden’s administration. Senator Cornyn’s statements reflect longstanding partisan divisions over how to handle unauthorized immigration and highlight disputes over both rhetoric and statistics concerning non-citizens with criminal convictions.
Historically, Congress has debated various proposals for reforming immigration enforcement and border security for decades. According to multiple government reports and independent analyses over recent years, enforcement practices and deportation priorities have shifted between presidential administrations.
