Senator John Cornyn, U.S. Senator representing Texas, has recently commented on several legislative and international matters through his social media account.
On July 16, 2025, Cornyn expressed appreciation for presidential action on fentanyl legislation. He stated, “Thank you @POTUS for signing the HALT Fentanyl Act into law to help keep this deadly drug off our streets. I’ve had the honor of meeting with families who’ve lost loved ones to fentanyl overdoses, and their stories are. heartbreaking. I commend President Trump for swiftly”. The HALT Fentanyl Act is designed to combat the distribution and abuse of fentanyl by making its temporary classification as a Schedule I substance permanent, thereby enhancing law enforcement’s ability to prosecute trafficking offenses.
The following day, July 17, 2025, Cornyn addressed fiscal policy and government spending reforms in another post. He wrote, “I proudly voted for @POTUS’ recissions package that will codify the DOGE cuts and takes a modest step to help rein in spending & root out fraud and abuse throughout the federal government. These rescissions will ensure Texas taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly & put”. Rescission packages allow Congress to withdraw previously allocated but unspent funds as a measure to reduce federal expenditures.
Also on July 17, 2025, Cornyn shared an article link from Foreign Affairs titled “The Limits of Putin’s Balancing Act,” with the message: “The Limits of Putin’s Balancing Act https://t.co/6pxWKw9OoY via @ForeignAffairs”. This reflects ongoing attention in U.S. foreign policy circles toward Russia’s strategies under President Vladimir Putin.
Cornyn’s recent posts highlight his legislative priorities—addressing drug crises such as fentanyl overdoses and advocating for stricter fiscal controls—as well as his interest in international affairs concerning Russia.
