Senator John Cornyn, a Republican representing Texas, posted a series of statements on July 24, 2025, addressing issues related to immigration laws and the investigation into alleged manipulation of national security apparatus during the so-called “Russiagate” controversy.

In his first post, Cornyn commented on the ongoing debate over due process in immigration policy. On July 24, 2025, he wrote: “I encourage my Democrat colleagues to stop using “due process” as a buzzword to mislead the American people. America is a country of laws, and we expect anyone who wants to come to America to OBEY those laws.”

Later that day, Cornyn referenced efforts with Senator Lindsey Graham regarding investigations into former President Barack Obama’s administration. At 16:35 UTC on July 24, 2025, he stated: ” @LindseyGrahamSC and I are urging @AGPamBondi to appoint a special counsel to investigate the extent to which former President Obama, his staff, & administration officials manipulated the U.S. national security apparatus during Russiagate. While we’ve known there was ZERO”

He followed up with another post at nearly the same time asserting media bias and calling for accountability: “Democrats & the liberal media have been out to get @POTUS since 2016. The America people deserve answers & accountability.”

The term “Russiagate” refers broadly to investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and potential connections between Russia and individuals associated with Donald Trump’s campaign. Multiple congressional committees and Special Counsel Robert Mueller conducted inquiries into these matters from 2017 through 2019; while Mueller’s report found insufficient evidence of criminal conspiracy between Trump associates and Russia, it did document extensive Russian efforts to interfere in U.S. elections.

Calls for further investigation into actions by officials from previous administrations have continued among some members of Congress even after these official inquiries concluded.
