Senator John Cornyn, Chair of the Senate Judiciary GOP Subcommittee on Immigration & Border Security, has announced a hearing titled “Somali Fraud in Minnesota: the Tip of the Iceberg,” focusing on concerns about misuse of government funds and illegal immigration.
In a post dated February 9, 2026, Cornyn stated, “Hardworking tax-paying Americans deserve accountability for how their dollars are being spent. As Chair of the @SenJudiciaryGOP Subcommittee on Immigration & Border Security, I’m hosting a hearing tomorrow entitled, ‘Somali Fraud in Minnesota: the Tip of the Iceberg,’ which”.
On the same day, he elaborated further on the intent behind the hearing by writing, “Tomorrow’s hearing will help us get a better handle on the full breadth of the problem posed by illegal immigration & the aliens who are abusing our country’s welfare system to send money back to their home countries. Fraud is not a victimless crime, & neither is identity”.
Additionally, Senator Cornyn noted his endorsement by a prominent business group in another post dated February 10, 2026: “Endorsed by US Chamber of Commerce https://t.co/zvxy9Q7ryy”.
Senator Cornyn has served multiple terms in the U.S. Senate representing Texas. He won re-election against MJ Hegar in 2020 with 53.5% of the vote and previously defeated David Alameel in 2014 with 61.6%, Rick Noriega in 2008 with 54.8%, and Ron Kirk in 2002 with 55%. Throughout his tenure, Cornyn has held various leadership positions and remains active on issues related to border security and fiscal oversight.
