Senator John Cornyn, a long-serving U.S. Senator from Texas, commented on a range of political and public safety issues in a series of posts on July 28, 2025.
In his first post, Cornyn expressed appreciation for the work of federal immigration authorities. On July 28, he wrote: “Thank you @ICEgov for working to keep our communities safe. I am glad the President & his administration are focused on finding and removing these dangerous criminals from our country.”
Later that day, Cornyn criticized Texas Democrats for seeking outside assistance in legislative matters. In a tweet posted at 21:14 UTC, he stated: “Texas Democrats are in such disarray that they’re flying in New York Democrat @RepJeffries in a desperate attempt to thwart the Texas legislature’s business.
Newsflash: if you need a liberal New Yorker’s advice on legislating in the Lone Star State, you’ve already failed.”
In another post that evening, Cornyn addressed concerns about agricultural threats facing the United States. At 23:23 UTC, he posted: “But it’s not just Texas – livestock across the country are under threat from the outbreak of New World screwworm coming from Mexico, which could cost the U.S. nearly $5 billion in losses.”
Senator Cornyn has held his seat since 2002 after defeating Ron Kirk with 55% of the vote. He was re-elected in subsequent elections against Rick Noriega (2008), David Alameel (2014), and MJ Hegar (2020), maintaining consistent majorities throughout his tenure.
