Senator John Cornyn, a Republican from Texas who has secured victories in the U.S. Senate elections of 2002, 2008, 2014, and 2020, recently posted a series of statements on his official X account addressing violent crime in Washington D.C. and law enforcement actions against drug trafficking.
In a post dated September 3, 2025, Cornyn stated: “For too long, D.C had been plagued by out-of-control violent crime. Thankfully @POTUS not only acknowledged this problem, but he’s done something about it. Proud to be joined by my @SenateGOP colleagues & D.C. crime survivor, @Anna_Giaritelli, who courageously shared her story https://t.co/RF6h5E9UBc”.
In a subsequent message on the same day, he added: “What happened to Anna will no longer be tolerated & I am confident @USAttyPirro will use all of the tools we make available and aggressively prosecute dangerous criminals in D.C.”.
Later that evening, Cornyn commended law enforcement agencies for their role in disrupting drug trafficking operations: “Well done @USAttyPirro, @HSIHouston, @ICEgov, & everyone involved in this historic bust of precursor chemicals destined to become meth sold in the U.S. https://t.co/O54DL7oxKw”.
Senator Cornyn has held his seat since first winning election against Ron Kirk in 2002 with 55% of the vote. He subsequently won reelection against Rick Noriega in 2008 (54.8%), David Alameel in 2014 (61.6%), and MJ Hegar in 2020 (53.5%).
