U.S. Senator John Cornyn appeared on Sunday Morning Futures to discuss the severe flooding in Texas and ongoing rescue operations. Speaking with Jason Chaffetz, Cornyn highlighted the gravity of the situation, noting that “this was a 100-year flood event in an area that had been known to flood, but nothing like this.” He expressed gratitude for federal disaster relief provided by President Trump and Secretary Noem at Governor Abbott’s request.
Governor Abbott has declared a Day of Prayer as Texans continue to hope for the safe recovery of those missing. Cornyn remarked on the resilience of Texans, stating, “Texans are tough, and they’re resilient,” and emphasized the community spirit by saying, “We are a family.”
The senator also addressed the ongoing severe weather conditions in Texas. After a prolonged drought period typical of Texas summers, heavy rains have led to widespread flooding beyond Kerrville. He urged residents to heed weather reports and safety warnings from officials as dangers persist.
Cornyn reiterated Governor Abbott’s commitment to relentless rescue efforts. He mentioned that 27 young girls remain unaccounted for but expressed hope for their recovery: “We’re still hopeful and prayerful that they will be recovered.”
