Today, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) addressed the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Border Security and Immigration hearing he chaired, titled “Biden’s Border Betrayal: Criminal Aliens in America.” He criticized Democrats for not acknowledging the efforts of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to deport over 291,000 criminal aliens under final orders of removal.
Senator Cornyn stated, “Yesterday, I chaired a subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary entitled Biden’s Border Betrayal: Criminal Aliens in America.” He noted the presence of two Angel moms at the hearing, saying, “We were honored to be joined by two Angel moms whose children were murdered by criminal aliens.”
He emphasized that these tragedies could have been avoided if such individuals had not been present in the United States. Criticizing his Democratic colleagues, he remarked, “Our Democratic colleagues claim to be the party of compassion when it comes to immigration, but they would rather society… turn a blind eye to these victims.”
Addressing misconceptions about ICE’s actions, he clarified, “You would think… that ICE is arresting gardeners… but the truth is there are 291,000 criminal aliens… under final orders of removal.” He explained that these individuals have exhausted legal options and ignored court orders for removal.
Cornyn challenged claims regarding due process for detained illegal aliens. He asserted, “Aliens who already have final orders of deportation… already had their due process.” He urged Democrats to reconsider using terms like ‘due process’ misleadingly in discussions about sympathetic cases where legal avenues have been exhausted or ignored.
