U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) chaired a Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Border Security and Immigration hearing titled “Biden’s Border Betrayal: Criminal Aliens in America.” During the session, he criticized media outlets for spreading misinformation about illegal immigration.
Cornyn addressed what he described as false narratives regarding illegal aliens, stating, “At the moment an alien illegally enters the United States, they have committed a crime.” He emphasized that those with final orders of removal have received due process under the law.
The senator noted that there are currently 291,141 criminal aliens in the U.S. with final orders of removal. He urged his colleagues to remember past bipartisan support for deporting criminal aliens and highlighted deterrence as key to immigration enforcement.
Cornyn praised Florida’s efforts in opening a detention facility known as Alligator Alcatraz and expressed hope for similar initiatives in Texas. He encouraged Texas Governor and Secretary Noem to consider future detention facilities in the state.
The hearing aimed to highlight what Cornyn sees as failures of President Biden’s border policies, pointing out crimes by illegal aliens that could have been prevented through stricter law enforcement.
