U.S. Senator John Cornyn said on Mar. 24 that American citizen Dennis Coyle has been released from wrongful detention by the Taliban in Afghanistan after more than a year.
Coyle’s release is significant for his family and those advocating for freedom and due process, according to Cornyn. The senator met with Coyle’s sisters, including one who lives in Texas, earlier this month to discuss their efforts with the U.S. Department of State to secure his return.
“Thanks to the tireless work by President Trump and Secretary Rubio, American Dennis Coyle is finally free after more than a year of wrongful detention by the Taliban in Afghanistan. Dennis’ return is excellent news for his family, who I was pleased to meet with earlier this month, and all those in America and around the world standing for freedom and due process. I’m grateful for the Trump Administration’s continued efforts to end the inhumane, terroristic practice of hostage diplomacy,” Cornyn said.
