U.S. Senator John Cornyn of Texas has expressed his approval following the Senate’s passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill, a key legislative priority for President Trump during his second term. Cornyn stated, “By passing the One Big Beautiful Bill, the Senate has delivered on President Trump’s hallmark legislative priority of his second term.” He emphasized that the bill aims to prioritize Texans by preventing significant tax increases on families, investing in border security, and reducing financial barriers related to Second Amendment rights.
The bill includes provisions for reimbursing Texas for Operation Lone Star and relocating the Space Shuttle Discovery to Houston. Cornyn highlighted these as priorities he has championed. He urged the House to quickly pass the bill so it can be signed into law by President Trump.
Key elements of the bill include $13.5 billion allocated to states like Texas for border security efforts made during the Biden-Harris administration and language supporting moving the Space Shuttle Discovery near NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. The legislation also features a modified version of Cornyn’s Small Business Investment Act and provisions from his Feral Swine Eradication Act.
Tax-related measures in the bill aim to prevent tax hikes on Texas families and businesses while maintaining child tax credits and standard deductions. It also establishes work requirements for certain adults without dependents or elderly parents in their care.
The bill makes substantial investments in border security, including $46.5 billion for U.S. Customs and Border Protection infrastructure, $4.1 billion for increased border personnel, and $45 billion for migrant detention facilities. Additional funds are allocated to enhance surveillance at the border, support staffing increases at DHS, ICE recruitment efforts, DOJ immigration case management, and resources for law enforcement officers.
