Rice women’s track and field team competes at Texas Relays

The Rice University women’s track and field team participated in the Texas Relays, according to an April 5 announcement. The event saw several notable performances from the Owls in a meet where only a small portion of the team competed.

The results highlight individual achievements, including Saniya Friendly recording an 11.42-second finish in the 100-meter dash. This time ranks as the second-best mark in the American Conference and is currently the 28th fastest nationally. Heidi Nielson finished fourth in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:55.33.

Other performances included Mikayla Wills placing 25th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.93 seconds, Sydney Freeman finishing 32nd in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:02.56, and relay teams placing within their respective events. The quartet of Freeman, Mickles, Taylor, and Friendly finished thirteenth in the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 45.85 seconds while Mickles, Freeman, Taylor, and Malikova took seventeenth place in the 4×400 meter relay with a finish of 3:48.55.

These results come as part of Rice’s ongoing outdoor season schedule.

The team is set for its next competition with a full-team outing scheduled for next week at Texas A&M.
