The Rice Owls women’s tennis team will compete against North Texas in the quarterfinals of the American Conference Championship, according to an April 16 announcement. The match is set for Friday, April 17 at the George R. Brown Tennis Center in Houston.

This event is significant as Rice enters with a strong record of 14 wins and six losses overall, including a seven-win, two-loss mark within conference play. The team holds the No. 51 spot in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings and has secured three American Conference Player of the Week honors this season.

Darya Schwartzman and Uma Bakaityte are ranked No. 53 nationally as a doubles pair for Rice. Divna Ratkovic received two Player of the Week awards, while Bakaityte earned one herself. Francesca Maguina and Nithesa Selvaraj have each clinched four matches for Rice this season; Ratkovic has secured three match-clinching points, and Bakaityte accounts for another.

The championship is being hosted by Rice on its home courts at George R. Brown Tennis Center, marking another occasion where they serve as hosts after previously doing so during their time in Conference USA—winning titles in both 2015 and 2019.

Wichita State holds the top seed position in this year’s tournament, followed by Charlotte at No. 2 seed. During regular season play, Rice lost to both teams: falling narrowly to Wichita State (4-3) and losing to Charlotte (4-1).
