The Rice men’s track and field team will send a small group of athletes to the Texas Relays in Austin, according to an April 1 announcement. The team plans a full showing next weekend at Texas A&M.

This participation gives Rice athletes an opportunity to compete against strong regional competition ahead of larger meets later in the season.

Juan Marais is scheduled to compete in the discus event after achieving a season-best throw of 57.87 meters, which earned him first place last weekend at the Victor Lopez Classic. Christian Edgar will participate in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles; Edgar finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles at last year’s American Championships. Drayden Dickmann is set for his first race of this year, following his sixth-place finish in the 100 meters at last year’s American Outdoor Championships.

The event list includes Drayden Dickmann running the 100 meters, Christian Edgar racing both hurdle events, and a relay team featuring Bocock, Gilbreth, McGrath, and Bacon competing in the 4×400 meter relay. Juan Marais will represent Rice in discus.

The team’s focus on select events this weekend allows key athletes to prepare for upcoming competitions while maintaining momentum from recent performances.
