Rice men’s track and field team posts strong results at California meets

The Rice men’s track and field team competed in several major meets in California, including the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Long Beach Invitational, and Tom Tellez Invitational, with notable performances reported on April 19.

The team’s participation against top national competition highlights its commitment to challenging itself and improving performance as the season progresses.

In Azusa, distance runner Jordan Edmondson finished seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.31. Jackson Moran placed ninth in the 1500 meters, while Andrew Murray was seventeenth in the steeplechase. Ben Tijerina secured twenty-first place in the 10,000 meters.

At Long Beach, Juan Marais took fifth place in discus with a throw of 58.49 meters. Jack Greaves also earned fifth place for javelin at 69.80 meters. Sultan Bakare finished seventh in shot put and thirteenth in hammer throw.

Sprinter Drayden Dickmann led at the Tom Tellez Invitational by finishing second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.55 seconds. Other notable results included Vincent Nnanna placing fourth in the 400-meter hurdles and Edward Bocock finishing third in the 800 meters.

Looking ahead, Rice is scheduled to compete next at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet this Saturday at Wendel D. Ley Track.
