The Rice men’s tennis team defeated the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) 4-1 on Mar. 28 at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex in Charlotte.
This victory improves Rice’s overall record to 11-6 and extends their road record to 9-5. The win also marks the seventh consecutive match won by the Owls.
In doubles play, Kabeer Kapasi and Yair Sarouk earned a 6-3 victory against Oskar Grzegorzewski and Constantin Radu, while Petro Kuzmenok and Santiago Navarro clinched the doubles point with a matching score of 6-3 over Enzo Vargas and Timeo Bretin. In singles competition, Navarro quickly defeated Bretin with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Gabriel Porras added another point for Rice by winning against Chetwey Ungar, finishing at 7-5, 6-4. UTSA gained its only point when Kapasi fell to Ontiveros in straight sets, but Kuzmenok secured the overall match for Rice after defeating Vargas with scores of 6-1, 7-6.
According to results provided by Rice Athletics, other matches included Rafael Botran versus Constantin Radu (unfinished), as well as Nhat Do versus Yanic Sagic (unfinished).
Rice is scheduled to return home for its next match against Tulsa on Friday, April 3.
