The Rice men’s tennis team defeated Charlotte 4-2 on March 27 at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.

The win marks another success for Rice as they secured their twelfth doubles point of the season. The Owls gained an early lead with Yair Sarouk and Kabeer Kapasi winning their doubles match against Moritz Muenster and Vasco Prata, followed by Tommy Czaplinski and Rafael Botran clinching the point in a close tiebreaker.

In singles play, Charlotte evened the score after Kapasi lost to Muenster. However, Botran regained the lead for Rice with a straight-set victory over Andres Medus. Noey Do extended Rice’s advantage by defeating E. Sanchez Bronsetti. Santiago Navarro then fell to Ivan Dreycopp, narrowing Rice’s lead to one point.

Petro Kuzmenok secured the overall win for Rice by overcoming an initial set loss to defeat Vasco Prata in three sets. Another singles match featuring Gabriel Porras was halted during its third set when the overall result was decided.

Rice is scheduled to face UTSA at 10 a.m. Saturday in Charlotte.
