Rice University’s baseball team defeated Florida Atlantic 8-1 on Mar. 29 at Reckling Park, led by home runs from Garet Boehm, Cole Green, and Colin Robson. Boehm hit his first career grand slam in the first inning, giving Rice an early four-run lead.
The victory marks a significant moment for Rice, as it is the earliest the team has reached 17 wins since starting the 2016 season with a similar record. The win also puts Rice five games over .500 for the first time since finishing the 2016 season at 38-24.
After loading the bases in the opening frame, Boehm delivered his second home run in as many days to left field. In subsequent innings, Green and Robson each added solo home runs to extend Rice’s advantage. Florida Atlantic scored its only run in the sixth inning on a two-out homer by Eli Small.
In response, Rice added insurance runs later that inning when Aric Anderson doubled and Landis Davila brought in another run with a sacrifice fly before Green drove in Anderson with a double to left field. Ryland Urbanczyk pitched six innings for his second win of the season (2-2), while Garrett Grant took the loss (1-2).
The game featured several individual achievements: Boehm recorded his third home run of the year and set a career high with four runs batted in; it was also his fourth three-RBI game this year. Green tied his career high with three hits—his fourth such performance this season—and notched his tenth multi-hit game of 2026. JC Davis had two hits for his team-leading thirteenth multi-hit game of the year, while Anderson achieved his first multi-hit outing of this campaign.
Looking ahead, Rice will host UTRGV outside conference play on Tuesday evening at Reckling Park.
