Rep. Sylvia Garcia, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 29th district since 2019, has recently voiced her concerns on several issues through social media. Her posts highlight significant topics ranging from immigration to financial accessibility and healthcare.
On May 19, 2025, Rep. Garcia expressed her disapproval of a recent Supreme Court decision affecting Venezuelan immigrants in the United States. She stated, “Today’s Supreme Court decision is unconscionable and will hurt 350,000 Venezuelans who fled the repressive Maduro regime.” She further explained that these individuals would find themselves undocumented and at risk due to this ruling.
The following day, May 20, 2025, Rep. Garcia addressed the importance of accessible financial services for seniors. In her tweet, she emphasized the need for traditional methods of communication by saying, “Financial services need to be accessible to everyone—especially our seniors.” She advocates for ensuring that essential banking information remains available in paper form as well as online.
Later on May 20, Rep. Garcia criticized Republican efforts regarding Medicaid and SNAP programs. Quoting scripture in her post,“I was hungry and you gave me something to eat.” she condemned attempts to reduce funding for these programs while providing tax breaks for wealthier citizens.
Sylvia Garcia has served in Congress since replacing Gene Green in 2019 after serving in the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018. Born in San Diego, Texas in 1950 and currently residing in Houston, she holds degrees from Texas Woman’s University and Texas Southern University.
