Representative Sylvia Garcia, who has served Texas’s 29th District in the U.S. Congress since 2019 and previously represented her constituents in the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018, has recently addressed several policy issues on social media. Garcia, a Houston resident and graduate of Texas Woman’s University and Texas Southern University, focused her recent statements on education funding, senior citizens’ welfare, and immigration policy.

On July 11, 2025, Garcia alleged that former President Donald Trump is unlawfully withholding substantial federal funds from public schools. She stated: “Donald Trump is illegally withholding nearly $7 billion from public schools nationwide — including $700 million from Texas alone. This is a direct attack on our students, teachers, and the future of public education. From cutting afterschool programs to gutting classroom”.

Later that day, Garcia reported meeting with senior citizens across her district and shared their concerns about proposed legislative changes. On July 11, 2025, she posted: “This week, I visited seniors across TX-29, and they’re deeply concerned about the devastating cuts in Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill. These changes will impact seniors, our veterans, and even their grandbabies. If you need help navigating these changes, my office is here for you.”

Addressing immigration policy on July 12, 2025, Garcia commented on recent polling data regarding public opinion toward deportation measures. She wrote: “This poll confirms what we already knew. Americans are rejecting Trump’s mass deportation agenda, which is built on separating families and ripping our communities apart.

Americans want a compassionate, inclusive, and orderly immigration system that does not betray our values as”.

Sylvia Garcia was born in San Diego, Texas in 1950 and currently resides in Houston. She began serving as the representative for Texas’s 29th Congressional District after replacing Gene Green in 2019.
