Rep. Sylvia Garcia, who represents Texas’s 29th district in the U.S. Congress, recently used her social media platform to address a range of issues including immigration policy, youth art recognition, and the commemoration of America’s founding documents.
On May 7, 2026, Garcia posted about her ongoing support for Dreamers, stating: “Now more than ever, we must come together to protect Dreamers from this out-of-control administration. They belong here. And we will not stop fighting for them.”
Later that evening on May 7, she highlighted an event recognizing young artists: “Tonight I hosted my annual Congressional Art Competition. Congratulations to winner Kimberly Flores, whose artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for the next year and who will travel to Washington, DC. It was inspiring to see so much creativity from young artists”.
On May 8, Garcia shared her visit to a Houston museum exhibition featuring historic American documents: “I stopped by the Houston Museum of Natural Science @hmns today to see our nation’s founding documents brought to Houston aboard the Freedom Plane as part of #America250. It was incredible to witness these historic documents up close and reflect on the ideals that shaped our”.
Garcia has represented Texas’s 29th district since 2019 after succeeding Gene Green and previously served in the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018. In recent election cycles, she has maintained significant electoral support; in 2024 she defeated Alan Garza with over 65% of the vote and secured similar margins against opponents Robert Schafranek in 2022 and Jaimy Blanco in 2020.
