Rep. Sylvia Garcia, a U.S. Congress member representing Texas’ 29th district since 2019, has been vocal on social media about her legislative priorities and concerns. On May 14, 2025, she highlighted the importance of disaster relief programs in a tweet.

“During severe weather events, families face the very real risk of permanent damage to their homes, and many never fully recover. That’s why we need to fund, not cut, disaster relief programs like FEMA and HUD. In @USHouseFSC, I’m advocating to protect and strengthen FEMA funding”, she stated.

On May 15, 2025, Rep. Garcia addressed constitutional rights in response to actions from the Trump administration regarding birthright citizenship. She tweeted: “We’ve got a message for the Trump White House: It’s the Constitution, stupid. Birthright citizenship is a Constitutional right, clearly articulated in the 14th amendment. Over the years, the Supreme Court has upheld this right.”

In another post on May 15, she mentioned several organizations with which she appears to be engaging or supporting: @CASAforall @FWDus @WeAreUnidosUS @CHIRLA.

Sylvia Garcia was born in San Diego, Texas in 1950 and currently resides in Houston. She graduated from Texas Woman’s University with a BA in 1972 and later earned a JD from Texas Southern University.
