Rep. Sylvia Garcia, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 29th district, shared several updates on July 9, 2025, via social media regarding her recent activities and political stances.
On July 9, Rep. Garcia expressed enthusiasm about welcoming Aldine ISD high school students to Capitol Hill. She emphasized the importance of civic engagement among young people by stating “Team Garcia was happy to welcome Aldine ISD high school students to Capitol Hill today. We talked about civic engagement and how their voices matter. Love seeing young people fired up to make a difference!”
Later that day, Rep. Garcia visited the MD Anderson YMCA to engage with neighborhood seniors concerning healthcare legislation known as the Big Ugly Bill. She noted “Stopped by the MD Anderson YMCA today to meet with neighborhood seniors and talk about the impacts of the Big Ugly Bill. We discussed how the upcoming changes could affect their healthcare and benefits.” She also encouraged constituents needing assistance with federal programs to reach out to her office.
In another post from July 9, Rep. Garcia criticized efforts by the Trump administration regarding Temporary Protected Status (TPS). She stated “The Trump administration’s misguided and cruel effort to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for hundreds of thousands of people in the U.S. is unconscionable.” Additionally, she mentioned leading a letter alongside other representatives demanding action from DHS.
Sylvia Garcia has been a member of Congress since 2019 after replacing Gene Green and previously served in the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018. Born in San Diego, Texas in 1950, she resides in Houston and holds degrees from Texas Woman’s University and Texas Southern University.
