Rep. Sylvia Garcia, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 29th district, has taken to social media to express her concerns and opinions on recent political developments. Her tweets from May 6, 2025, address issues ranging from presidential actions to cultural heritage.
On May 6, 2025, Rep. Garcia shared her decision to walk out of a congressional hearing. She stated that “hearings are business as usual in Congress,” but expressed concern over President Trump’s alleged creation of his own currency for personal gain. She emphasized that such actions should not be treated like typical policy debates and described them as corruption “we can not treat Trump’s corruption like any old policy debate.”
Later that day, Rep. Garcia accused former President Trump of exploiting his position for financial benefit through cryptocurrency initiatives. She criticized Trump’s associates for running firms like World Liberty Financial and condemned the dismantling of regulations designed to protect citizens from fraud “Trump isn’t just pushing crypto—he’s using the presidency to cash in on it.”
In another tweet on the same day, Rep. Garcia acknowledged Jewish American Heritage Month by honoring Jewish contributions to American culture and values. She called for unity in combating antisemitism “Let’s honor Jewish contributions to American culture and values and join forces in the fight against antisemitism.”
Sylvia Garcia has been a member of Congress since replacing Gene Green in 2019 after serving in the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018. Born in San Diego, Texas, she now resides in Houston and holds degrees from Texas Woman’s University and Texas Southern University.
