Rep. Sylvia Garcia, a current member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 29th district, shared her concerns on various issues through a series of tweets on May 22, 2025. Garcia has been serving in Congress since 2019 after succeeding Gene Green and has previously served in the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018.

In her first tweet posted at 04:02:23 UTC, Garcia highlighted that “one in five women in America rely on Medicaid for birth control, cancer screenings, and maternity care.” She criticized House Republicans for attempting to remove reproductive coverage from women under federal health plans, describing it as “a nationwide abortion ban, no matter what your state law says.”

At 04:23:56 UTC, Garcia expressed her disapproval of what she termed the GOP Tax Scam. She accused House Republicans of attempting to pass it secretly during nighttime hours to obscure significant cuts to healthcare and food assistance. Garcia stated that this was done because “they know the American people would never support it in the light of day.”

In a subsequent tweet at 04:28:10 UTC, Garcia expressed her sorrow over a tragic event involving the shooting of two Israeli embassy staffers. She conveyed her condolences by stating, “My thoughts and prayers are with their families and loved ones during this difficult time,” emphasizing that “violence of any kind cannot be tolerated.”

Sylvia Garcia was born in San Diego, Texas, in 1950 and currently resides in Houston. She graduated from Texas Woman’s University with a BA in 1972 and earned a JD from Texas Southern University.
