Rep. Sylvia Garcia, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 29th district, shared her thoughts on social media on May 5, 2025. Her posts covered both cultural celebrations and political commentary.

On May 5, 2025, Rep. Sylvia Garcia expressed pride in joining her colleagues to honor Cinco de Mayo and recognize the contributions of Mexican and Mexican-American families to the United States. She emphasized their resilience and fight for freedom, stating “Proud to join my colleagues in honoring Cinco de Mayo and the generations of Mexican and Mexican-American families who’ve shaped our country.”

In a subsequent tweet posted shortly after, she reiterated this sentiment in Spanish: “Con orgullo me uno a mis colegas para conmemorar el Cinco de Mayo y honrar a las familias mexicanas y mexicoamericanas que han forjado nuestra nación.” This reflects her commitment to acknowledging the cultural significance of these communities.

Later that day, Rep. Garcia turned her attention to political matters by commenting on former President Donald Trump’s views regarding the Constitution. She stated “Trump openly admits he doesn’t think the Constitution applies to him.” She characterized this perspective as dangerous and likened it to “the mindset of a dictator.”

Sylvia Garcia has served in Congress since replacing Gene Green in 2019. Prior to this role, she was a member of the Texas Senate from 2013 until 2018. Born in San Diego, Texas, she now resides in Houston.
