Rep. Sylvia Garcia, U.S. Congresswoman representing Texas’ 29th district since 2019, has used her social media platform to voice strong criticism of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency and recent legislative actions related to its funding and oversight.

On February 3, 2026, Garcia posted: “ICE is totally out of control. People are being killed as a result of its abuses.

@Hispaniccaucus is advancing the DISMANTLE ICE Act to stop the violence, restore accountability, and put control back in local communities. We must stop ICE now.

Later that day, she wrote: “When federal agents can kill civilians and avoid accountability, our system has failed. We stood outside ICE HQ demanding Kristi Noem be fired, full accountability for ICE abuses, and an end to secret policing. No one is above the Constitution.

In a subsequent post on February 3, 2026, Garcia stated: “Trump and Republicans gave ICE $75 billion in their Big Ugly Bill while cutting health and food assistance. Today, I voted NO for more DHS funding. We cannot fund an agency that kills Americans and lies about it. Not a penny more to ICE.

Garcia’s remarks come amid ongoing debates in Congress regarding immigration enforcement practices and federal agency oversight. She referenced efforts by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to advance legislation known as the DISMANTLE ICE Act aimed at reforming or dissolving parts of the immigration enforcement infrastructure.

Garcia has represented Texas’s 29th District since replacing Gene Green in 2019; prior to her tenure in Congress she served in the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018. She has consistently secured reelection victories over multiple cycles—defeating Alan Garza in 2024 with over sixty-five percent of the vote; Robert Schafranek in 2022 with over seventy-one percent; Jaimy Blanco in 2020 with seventy-one percent; and Phillip Aronoff in 2018 with seventy-five percent.

Her recent posts highlight continued calls among some House Democrats for increased transparency regarding federal law enforcement agencies’ actions and budgets.
