Rep. Sylvia Garcia, U.S. Congresswoman representing Texas’s 29th district, has recently taken to social media to address key issues affecting Texas schools and the state’s ongoing redistricting process.
On July 24, 2025, Garcia posted: ” Republicans are illegally blocking $612 MILLION in approved funds from reaching schools in Texas. This is a huge blow to working families who depend on specialized learning courses & counseling to help their children succeed.” The statement highlights her concern regarding the allocation of education funding and its impact on families relying on school resources.
Later that day, Garcia updated her followers about her activities at the state capital: “Today I’m in Austin, ready to testify before the Texas Legislature on Trump and Abbott’s dangerous mid-decade redistricting proposal. This Saturday, I’ll also be at the public hearing on Texas’s congressional maps: July 26 | 11 AM University of Houston – Student Center,” indicating her involvement in legislative discussions concerning proposed changes to congressional districts.
In a subsequent post on July 24, she tagged House Democrats and referenced the Texas Legislature with: “@HouseDemocrats @HouseDPCC #txlege”.
Garcia has represented Texas’s 29th district in Congress since 2019, following her tenure in the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018. She was born in San Diego, Texas in 1950 and currently resides in Houston. Her educational background includes a BA from Texas Woman’s University and a JD from Texas Southern University.
