Rep. Sylvia Garcia, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’s 29th district since 2019, recently addressed issues related to affordable housing and voting rights in a series of posts on her official Twitter account.
On July 16, 2025, Garcia wrote, “Good, affordable housing is what Americans want and deserve. But Trump is dismantling the programs that make it possible. Builders must do their part: pay fair wages, use American-made products, and invest in workers here at home. That is how we build strong communities.” She tagged several congressional committees and caucuses in a subsequent post on the same day: @USHouseFSC @HouseDemocrats @HouseDPCC.
The following day, July 17, 2025, Garcia posted about voting rights and redistricting efforts in Texas: “Five years after his passing, we honor John Lewis by continuing his fight. As Trump and Abbott try to rig Texas’s congressional maps, we make #GoodTrouble—just like he taught us. Voting rights. Fair maps. Real representation. The fight isn’t over.” She again referenced House Democrats and the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee.
Garcia has represented Texas’s 29th District since succeeding Gene Green in 2019 and previously served in the Texas Senate from 2013 to 2018. Born in San Diego, Texas in 1950, she resides in Houston and holds degrees from Texas Woman’s University (BA) and Texas Southern University (JD).
