Rep. Sylvia Garcia, U.S. Congresswoman representing Texas’s 29th district, posted a series of statements on her social media account addressing issues related to Alzheimer’s advocacy and federal funding for security agencies.
On March 27, 2026, Garcia expressed appreciation for local advocacy groups: “Thank you to the Alzheimer’s Association of Houston and Southeast Texas @alztex for your tireless advocacy and support for those living with Alzheimer’s and their loved ones. You are making a difference in countless lives!”
Later that day, she commented on ongoing congressional debates regarding funding for federal agencies: “Donald Trump had weeks to pay TSA workers, he didn’t. Republicans have the option to pass the Senate bill and fund TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard, but are choosing not to. Democrats are ready to keep our communities safe, but we will not give one more dollar to ICE to terrorize” (March 27, 2026).
On March 28, 2026, Garcia further explained her voting decision: “I voted no. There was a bipartisan path to fund TSA, FEMA, the Coast Guard, and the rest of DHS without funding ICE or CBP. The Republican-led Senate passed it. But Donald Trump and House Republicans shut it down. Not because there isn’t a solution, but because they want more”.
Garcia has served in Congress since replacing Gene Green in 2019 after previously serving in the Texas Senate from 2013 through 2018. She has won multiple re-election campaigns by significant margins: defeating Alan Garza in 2024 with over 65% of the vote; Robert Schafranek in 2022 with over 71%; Jaimy Blanco in 2020 with over 71%; and Phillip Aronoff in 2018 with over 75%.
Her recent posts highlight both her engagement with local health organizations as well as her stance on federal funding priorities amid partisan divisions.
