Representative Dan Crenshaw, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 2nd district since 2019, recently addressed issues concerning Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) through a series of tweets. Crenshaw, born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1984 and currently residing in Humble, Texas, has been vocal about his stance on healthcare reforms.

On June 5, 2025, Crenshaw commented on claims regarding potential fatalities due to loss of Medicaid or ACA coverage. He stated that “They claim 11,300 people will die from losing Medicaid or ACA coverage. What they leave out? Most of those losing coverage are: –1.4M Illegal immigrants – 2.8M Duplicate or over-income enrollees – 4.8M Able-bodied adults choosing not to work We’re restoring the program to serve”.

In a subsequent tweet on the same day, Crenshaw elaborated on the specifics of a proposed bill affecting Medicaid. He asserted that “Now here’s what the bill really does: It protects Medicaid for seniors, kids, people with disabilities, and pregnant women. It cuts out waste, fraud, and ineligible use. And yes — it brings back work requirements.”

Crenshaw further challenged assumptions regarding healthcare coverage loss equating to mortality risk by referencing a study’s findings. He tweeted “Also, let’s stop pretending that losing coverage equals certain death. That’s absurd. A gold-standard Medicaid study found no measurable health gains in the short term from gaining coverage. The Yale-Penn letter ignores that reality completely.”

Crenshaw graduated from Tufts University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
