Team Bettencourt has recently shared a series of updates on legislative developments in Texas through their social media platform. The posts cover significant changes in education, housing reform, and judicial compensation.
On June 2, Team Bettencourt announced the passage of SB 568, described as the “most transformative special education bill in TX history” by former House Education Chair Dan Huberty. “SB 568…has officially passed the Texas Legislature and is on its way to becoming law!” This bill had strong bipartisan support with ten joint authors and backing from the entire Senate.
The following day, on June 3, Team Bettencourt reported that SB 1567 was advancing to the Governor’s desk. This legislation aims to eliminate outdated occupancy caps across Texas. “Students & roommates can now live together without city interference”, marking a shift towards safety-based zoning rules rather than status-based ones.
Later on June 3, Team Bettencourt noted that Texas judges would receive a pay raise due to a last-minute legislative agreement. They mentioned the efforts involved during the final day of the 89th Legislative Session. “Quite a bit of work for Uncle Paul, et al, on the last day…” The session also saw progress on SB 15 concerning housing affordability alongside SB 568.
Texas State Senator Paul Bettencourt is known for his active role in these legislative processes.
