University of Houston sophomore guard Mercy Miller was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Mar. 23 for his achievements both on the basketball court and in the classroom.

The recognition highlights student-athletes who maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 and are sophomores academically and athletically. Miller, now in his second season with the Cougars, is majoring in integrated studies.

Miller has played in all but one game this season, contributing to the Cougars’ overall record of 30-6 and helping them reach their seventh consecutive Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament, which is currently the longest active streak nationally. He is averaging 5.2 points and 1.9 rebounds per game, with double-digit scoring performances in each of his last three games—a first for him.

Among his season highlights, Miller scored a career-high 15 points during a home win over New Orleans on December 13, going perfect from both the field (5-of-5) and free throw line (4-of-4). He also recorded ten points with a season-high eight rebounds against Colorado on February 28 and tallied thirteen points with seven rebounds against Arizona during the Big 12 Tournament Championship on March 14.

Last year, Miller was selected for the Academic All-Big 12 Conference Rookie Team for his academic accomplishments as a freshman.

Looking ahead, Miller and Houston will face Illinois during the NCAA Tournament South Regional Sweet 16 at Toyota Center in Houston. The game is scheduled for Thursday at 9:05 p.m., with broadcast coverage available through TNT as well as several radio networks.
