Lizzie Pannill Fletcher, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 7th District since 2019, shared her thoughts on several significant issues via social media on May 5, 2025. Born in Houston in 1975 and holding degrees from Kenyon College and the College of William and Mary, Fletcher has been an active voice in her community and beyond.
On May 5, 2025, Fletcher marked the anniversary of the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 by celebrating “all that followed as well as the cultural contributions of Mexican-Americans to our community.” She wished everyone a “Feliz #CincoDeMayo” to commemorate this historic event.
Later that day, she expressed concern about economic developments under President Trump. In a post dated May 5, 2025, she stated that “President Trump inherited a strong economy—and in just 100 days, he’s driven it toward recession.” She highlighted a GDP shrinkage by 0.3% in Q1 2025 compared to a strong growth of 2.4% in Q4 2024 and noted rising prices over two consecutive quarters.
In another tweet on May 5, she criticized an executive order issued by President Trump targeting the Smithsonian Institution. Fletcher remarked that this order was “an affront to understanding our U.S. history and to generations of Americans.” She announced her support for Rep. Pressley’s call for an investigation into the order’s impacts.
