U.S. Representative Lizzie Fletcher has voiced concerns over proposed changes to Texas congressional districts and recent federal data collection policies in a series of posts on August 1, 2025. Fletcher, who represents a Houston-area district, addressed the implications of redistricting and inflation measurement during media appearances and on social media.
On August 1, Fletcher thanked local radio host Craig Cohen for hosting her on Houston Matters, stating: “Thanks to Craig Cohen & @HoustonMatters for having me in the studio to discuss the Washington-driven plan to redraw the congressional districts and what it means for Texas voters.” She encouraged listeners to hear the full discussion through a provided link.
Later that day, Fletcher criticized actions by former President Donald Trump regarding economic data collection. In her post, she wrote: “President Trump’s cuts to data collection are making it more difficult to tell how bad inflation is… conspicuous timing as tariffs start to kick in.”
In another statement posted on August 1, Fletcher expressed opposition to the ongoing redistricting efforts. She said: “Nobody is asking for this illegal and unnecessary redistricting scheme. Glad to join ‘This Week in Texas’ on @abc13houston to urge my neighbors to speak out against this power grab by President Trump and Texas Republicans.”
Fletcher’s comments come amid continued debate over congressional redistricting in Texas. The process has been contentious in recent years, with both state and national leaders weighing its impact on representation.
Since first winning election in 2018 against John Culberson with 52.5% of the vote, Fletcher has consistently secured re-election victories: defeating Wesley Hunt in 2020 with 50.8%, Johnny Teague in 2022 with 63.8%, and Caroline Kane in 2024 with 61.3%. These results reflect her sustained support within her district across multiple election cycles.
